Privacy Policy

Overview

Jib is a service designed for parents and guardians to monitor their children's YouTube viewing activity for harmful content. Jib accounts are created and managed exclusively by adults (18+) acting as parents or legal guardians. Jib complies with the Children's Online Privacy Protection Act (COPPA).

What we collect

• When the parent or legal guardian creates an account, we collect the email address and the information provided by Clerk (our authentication provider) for the account holder. We do not store passwords.
• When the account holder adds user profiles (family members) to their account, we collect the name that the account holder gives to the profile. This name can be overwritten and when it is, we do not store the prior name of the profile.
• Our Chrome extension reads the transcript of each YouTube video viewed while the extension is active and sends it to our servers for analysis. If harmful content is detected, the result is recorded to your account. We do not record your browsing history outside of YouTube videos analyzed by the extension.
• The extension stores an authentication token locally on the device of the account holder and any user profiles under the account (in Chrome's local storage) to keep them signed in. This token is sent to our servers with each analysis request to verify identity. It is not shared with any third party.
• We track usage metrics (number of analyses) and performance data (how long each analysis step takes) to improve the service and detect issues.

How we use your data

• To provide and improve the harmful content detection and parental guidance services
• To show account admins a summary of their family members' activity
• To diagnose performance issues and errors

We do not sell your data to third parties.

Data sharing

We use the following service providers, each with their own privacy policies. These providers act on behalf of Jib and are barred from using your data for their own purposes:

• Clerk — authentication and user management
• Google Cloud — hosting and database

Data retention and deletion

We retain account information and viewing and analysis data only as long as needed to provide the service. When the account is deleted , within 30 days we will permanently remove the account email address, profile names, and all viewing and analysis records associated with the account and its profiles, including any link between those records and an individual profile.

The account holder may also request deletion of a specific child's data at any time before account deletion by contacting support@jibproject.com, and we will delete it within 30 days.

Separately, when our system flags a video, we keep a de-identified record that a video was flagged , with no connection to any account, profile, or individual, which we use to improve our detection service. Because these records cannot be linked back to any person, we may retain them on an ongoing basis. They are not affected by an account or child-data deletion request, because they contain no personal information.

Children's privacy and COPPA compliance

Jib does not knowingly allow children under 13 to create accounts. All accounts are created by parents or legal guardians on behalf of their family. By creating an account, you represent that you are at least 18 years old and are the parent or legal guardian of any child whose viewing activity will be monitored through your account.

Data about a child's YouTube viewing activity is collected on behalf of the parent or guardian account holder and is accessible only to them. As a parent or guardian, you have the right to:

• Review the viewing activity and analysis results collected about your child
• Request deletion of your child's data at any time by contacting support@jibproject.com
• Refuse further collection of your child's data by deactivating or deleting your account

We do not retain children's viewing activity data longer than necessary to provide the service.
